Jerry Jeff Walker Biopic Nashville Screening

OK Buckaroos, the Jerry Jeff Walker biopic is screening in Nashville on February 6, 2014...

In the sixties he was a street singer. In the seventies he led a musical movement. In the eighties he walked away from the recording industry. This is the story of a troubadour’s life from the nation’s biggest arenas to hundred year old honky-tonks; from Upstate New York to the beaches of Key West and the hustling sidewalks of New Orleans to the solace of the Texas Hill Country – and far beyond. Daft Punk Robots Not Programmed For LAX

There are some places a person cannot enter while wearing a helmet ...airports are one of them. Apparently, no one programmed the Daft Punk robots with that in mind. We assume the humanoids under the helmets were high from their Grammy Award success and attempted to stroll through security at LAX (Los Angeles International Airport without worry. Sorry guys, no can do ...they were forced to remove the objects from their heads.

The internet seems to believe the 'unmasking' at LAX is some kind of scoop ...we're guessing the TMZ folks aren't sticklers for research since the duo's photos before they became robots litter the world wide web. MORE HERE

Kristofferson & Co. Lifetime Achievements Honored

The Recording Academy honored the 2014 Special Merit Awards recipients at the Special Merit Awards Ceremony & Nominees Reception on Jan. 25 in Los Angeles. This year's Lifetime Achievement Award recipients are the Beatles, Clifton Chenier, the Isley Brothers, Kraftwerk, Kris Kristofferson, Armando Manzanero, and Maud Powell; Trustees Award honorees are Rick Hall, Jim Marshall and Ennio Morricone; and Emile Berliner and Lexicon are Technical GRAMMY Award recipients.

The unofficial theme for the Recording Academy's laughter-filled Special Merit Awards ceremony could easily have been old friends. When Ringo Starr and Kris Kristofferson ran into each other on the red carpet Saturday January 25, 2014, they bear-hugged it out.

"I'm just going to hug you first, brother," Starr said as he reached for Kristofferson. "I'm getting the dinosaur award. What are you getting?" "I don't remember," Kristofferson said and everyone laughed. MORE HERE & HERE

R.I.P.: Pete Seeger

Pete Seeger, the singer, folk-song collector and songwriter who spearheaded an American folk revival and spent a long career championing folk music as both a vital heritage and a catalyst for social change, died Monday January 27, 2014. He was 94.

Mr. Seeger’s career carried him from singing at labor rallies to the Top 10 to college auditoriums to folk festivals, and from a conviction for contempt of Congress (after defying the House Un-American Activities Committee in the 1950s) to performing on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial at an inaugural concert for Barack Obama.

For Mr. Seeger, folk music and a sense of community were inseparable, and where he saw a community, he saw the possibility of political action. MORE HERE

Motorhead Cancels Again

Another health-related setback has forced Motorhead to cancel a run of 2014 European tour dates. According to the band, frontman Lemmy Kilmister has been advised by doctors to stay off the road due to issues stemming from diabetes.

Since mid-2013, reports concerning Lemmy’s health have been extremely divided. Bandmates, friends, business partners and Lemmy himself have detailed the ups and downs of the frontman’s current health scare. In fact, Motorhead canceled their original European tour back in October, so this marks the second time in only three months that Lemmy’s health has stopped the band from invading Europe. We're guessing they're not gonna make it to Coachella MORE HERE & HERE

A Snapshot Of Willie Dixon From The Strypes

Eternal truths, the lines which guide us, which connect generation to generation, parent to child is the sort of wisdom that runs through The Strypes.

The band isn't doing anything new, per se, but the manner of their approach, the rawness of the delivery allows them to tap into something primal, something pure.

Willie Dixon wrote 'You Can't Judge A Book By The Cover' but Bo Diddley made it his own. A souped up, rhythm 'n' blues stomper which nodded towards the rock 'n' roll boom.

T Bone Burnett : True Musical Detective

True Detective, a dark new anthology series that premiered on HBO earlier this month (January 2014), has been greeted with wide critical praise. The series stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as Louisiana homicide detectives Rustin Cohle and Martin Hart, respectively. The show follows their hunt for a serial killer, as well as their struggles with inner demons and family.

The series' brooding atmosphere is framed by an expertly crafted soundtrack—some of the songs are haunting, some are bluesy, some are both. The music is selected by none other than T Bone Burnett, the Oscar-winning producer and musician.

Burnett's affection for the series comes through in his song selection, which plays like a sinister blues and gospel party mix. The soundtrack includes tracks like "Bring It to Jerome" by Bo Diddley, "Clear Spot" by Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band, "Stand By Me" by The Staple Singers, and "Honey Bee (Let's Fly to Mars)" by Grinderman. An Arsenal Of Musical Firearms On Display

Pedro Reyes believes art should address social issues like gun violence, even when they're difficult and controversial.

Reyes addresses the issue of gun violence by using guns themselves. His first project began in 2007. As part of a campaign to curb shootings, the city collected 1,527 guns. He used them to create art.

Now Reyes is working on a new project. It is one that transforms guns into something more musical.

An exhibition of the work is on display at the University of South Florida's Contemporary Art Museum. It's called 'Disarm' and consists of guns that have been turned into musical instruments. MORE HERE

Watch For A Letter Home From Neil Young

Neil Young's new album A Letter Home, which he recently described as "one one of the lowest-tech experiences I've ever had," will see release via Jack White's Third Man Records. While Young said that the record would be out in March, no official release date has been given yet.

Other details regarding A Letter Home are slim, including the extent to which White was involved (a note on Young's Facebook page did debunk rumors that the album was a collection of duets between the two musicians). It seems likely that Young recorded the album on a 1947 Voice-o-Graph machine located at Third Man's Nashville headquarters. MORE HERE

Young will also launch his new music player PONO at the SXSW music conference in Austin, Texas in March (2014).

Young was awarded the President's Merit Award from the Producers and Engineers arm of the Recording Academy and said his PONO player would be launched at SXSW.

PONO is a high quality digital music player that will play the sound to the listener as it was recorded in the studio. It will become the hi-tech alternative to the low quality MP3 players such as the iPod. source

Cautionary Tales Coming From Mark Oliver Everett

At least in music-career terms, the story of Mark Oliver Everett is anything but a cautionary tale. Everett’s Eels project could’ve disappeared forever into the one-hit wonder abyss after 1997′s “Novocaine For The Soul.” Instead, he’s about to be 16 studio albums deep into a culty, confessional studio-pop singer-songwriter caree. But Everett has nevertheless titled his new album The Cautionary Tales Of Mark Oliver Everett, and you can hear a very pretty 62 seconds of new music in the teaser video above.

The introspective new 13 track album from the ever-changing project of singer/songwriter and instrumentalist Mark Oliver Everett is being described as "an extraordinarily vivid and intimate document of a personal struggle" and will be released April 22, 2014. source

Both Aimee Mann & Ted Leo

The Both, a new duo consisting of Aimee Mann and Ted Leo, will release their debut album The Both on April 15, 2014 through Mann's own SuperEgo Records. In advance, they're premiering the album track "Milwaukee" (below), a hook-injected rocker with great soloing and an unwavering beat.

The Both represents the pairing of two great if under-appreciated talents who go great together. When the two artists toured together in 2012, Leo's solo sets inspired Mann, the headliner, to hop onstage with him. From there, the 11 original songs on The Both were written with a back-and-forth process and recorded in L.A. throughout 2013. MORE HERE
