Kate Bush and the Snowman

"Misty" is Kate Bush's 13-and-a-half-minute song about a romantic affair with a snowman, off her excellent new album 50 Words for Snow. Bush recently posted the video for a snippet of the song-- it's a claymation clip called "Mistraldespair" in which the snowman, for lack of a better description... melts all over her bed.

7 Songs Set Against a Backdrop of Falling Snow

Kate-bush-1-by-trevor-leighton_wide

50 Words for Snow: England's elusive empress of art rock devised her 10th studio long-player out Nov. 21. Approaching this release from different angles, speaking of it in different metaphors, piques the imagination while creating a kind of unity of thought, just as limiting herself to stories inspired by winter weather clearly did for Kate Bush.

Stairway to Heaven 40th Anniversary

Led Zeppelin's eight-minute classic turns 40 this week.

Robert Plant and Jimmy Page were woodshedding in Wales when they devised their faery-strewn folk-metal psychedelia masterwork. Bassist/arranger John Paul Jones added mood-setting recorders and drummer John Bonham brought his protean thwunk to the game. The song may or may not have borrowed key elements from an instrumental (Taurus) by the band Spirit, with whom they once toured. But Zep molded those chord progressions into a masterpiece of excess.

There have been many versions of "Stairway to Heaven"...here are two favorites...

Each of the three film clips featured different costumes and Beatle antics. In the first film they wear their "Sgt. Pepper" uniforms, for the second The Beatles are wearing everyday clothes, the third film clip features shots from the first two films, plus additional shots of The Beatles (especially John) doing the twist. A Musician's Union ban on lip-sync broadcasts prevented the film being used on British television.

Get Into The Monkees Head

November 6, 1968, The Monkees' three quarter of a million dollar feature film, Head opened in New York City. Instead of being aimed at their target audience of teeny boppers, the film contained a dark theme about the manipulation of the group with walk-on appearances by inappropriate guests and scenes of Vietnam War atrocities. Reviews were harsh and the picture was a box office disaster but it is revered as a cult phenom.
