Lauryn Hill blames her tax woes with the IRS on historical racism, according to a lengthy open letter that appeared on the singer's Tumblr page Friday (June 28, 2013).
Hill, who began serving three months in prison (on Sunday June 30, 2013) for failing to pay taxes on approximately $1.8 million in earnings, also stated that she thinks "reverse racism" as "flawed, if not absolutely ridiculous," and cites historical racism as the as the impetus for her problems with the IRS.
