Charlotte Church U.S. One & Two
British chanteuse Charlotte Church’s first U.S. album in a decade is actually 10 tunes from the first two of five United Kingdom EPs she’s putting together, her first as an independent artist after departing from Sony in 2006 and threatening to chuck the whole dang music business.
Regardless, it’s a good thing she stuck it out. Though a teensy bit pretentious and overblown, the album showcases one of the best voices to come down the pike. There are Lou Reed elements in the depressing "Nerve" (above), but overall it’s a solid effort that heightens anticipation of the other three EPs. MORE HERE & HERE
