R.I.P.: Levon Helm

Levon Helm, who helped forge a deep-rooted American music as the drummer and singer for the Band, died on Thursday in Manhattan. He was 71 and lived in Woodstock, N.Y.

Mr. Helm was the American linchpin of the otherwise Canadian group that became Bob Dylan’s backup band and then the Band. MORE HERE

From his days as the backbone of The Band, to the last few years that centered around his Midnight Ramble experiences in Woodstock, NY, Helm made timeless music steeped in American traditions for half a century. It's sad to see him go; after putting so much of himself into the music for so long, we know he won't be forgotten. Wolfgangs Vault's tribute to Levon Helm HERE
