The Saint Comes Marching In

Last month 4AD released a compilation of the best of their 4AD sessions so far (free download here). While it was an amazing compilation, you couldn’t help but look at the tracklist and notice that they hadn’t yet had some of the best artists from their roster in to perform yet. One such artist was Annie Clark aka St. Vincent, but following the release of her Recommended third album Strange Mercy last month Clark and her band paid a visit to the Shangri-La studios in Brooklyn.

Written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love, the track was recorded over 6 weeks in four different Los Angeles studios, at a cost of over $16,000. The recording engineer would later say that the last take sounded exactly like the first, six months earlier. The record would reach No.1 on the US charts in December 1966.

Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards is getting yet another award for his critically acclaimed memoir, "Life," which immediately became an international bestseller when it was published in October 2010. The New York Post reports that former U.S. President Bill Clinton will present Richards with the Mailer Prize for Distinguished Biography at the Norman Mailer Center’s benefit at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York City on November 8, 2011. October 4, 1978, Country singer Tammy Wynette, was abducted, beaten and held in her car for two hours by a kidnapper wearing a ski mask. He held a gun on her and forced her to drive 90 miles from Nashville, Tennessee. She was later released and the kidnapper escaped.
